I think we can see it all around us that people are switching. Im a recent switcher myself and have had 2 Macs now in 12 months.
What im interested in though, is what effect Vista will have on the rate of switchers. Its fairly easy to get a casual PC user to switch on eye candy alone. Will this work when Vista out eye candys OSX?

Whoever advised them to not put the maps onboard and download as needed, needs to be fired- poor decision.

That brain dead decision has elevated their products usefulness to that of Google Maps. Maybe just slightly better. But from a user experience driving in the middle of nowhere and then coming into an area where you need street date etc. ...that design just SUCKS big time. When you need it most ...major , MAJOR FAIL.

5D, not so much.
How so. I have shot tethered from 5D to Macbook (RAW & JPG). What software are you using?
I have not tried yet with C1Pro but works with canon remote capture software.

don't take this the wrong way, but these "biggots" you speak of are a lot like the born-again christians that corner you at the coffee machine trying to get you to go to church with them. (in fact, i even remember a mac fac site called "evangelista"!) macs offer simplicity, stability, and peace of mind--we do not have to travel through the blue screen of death, because the mac is with us! most of us, at one time, were just like you, using those evil windoze machines. but now "we have seen the light!" and can't possibly imagine how you could continue in your suffering. you don't know the peace you could have if you just gave the mac a chance. do you see the metaphor here?
and one thing many windoze people say is, "if macs are so much better, why only 5% market share?" well, christianity started with less market share than that, and it is certainly better than baal or ishtar, just to name a few!
and just for the record, i am a mac biggot. would you like to come over sunday? i can show you how to use iMovie!!!!:D

I do now, for some reason it takes me a while to understand when I look at it.
i think those stats are pretty good. nothing is perfect, but they seem to work for me.

I think most people that show hatred to sandy bridge CPU are owners of late 2010 MBA. Bias imo.
+1 I agree. They tend to not accept that Apple will release something that is potentially better (at least CPU-wise) and newer than what they have. In case "Icaras" says I'm dictating whatever again, that is my perception, my personal opinion.
I would definitely take sandy bridge over what is essentially a 5+ year old CPU.
I don't think the new Intel graphics is horrible as some people suggest. But then again, I am only a light gamer.
If you set the settings to low, you can pretty much run anything on anything. I remember being able to run Crysis on a GMA950.

Whether it ships or not, I hope it’s real and not just an OS hack. I’d like Apple to keep playing with different multitasking UIs. The current version is nice, and those iPad developer gestures are awesome, but it’s worth experimenting to find the best method.
The Expos� thing is neat, but needs app icons added to the windows.
I like the new(?) folders—looks like they’d fit 3 icons across, to better match what you see in the folder icons! Hope they keep that system. Or something with 3 across. (Or, if nothing else, have 4 across but show the top-left 3x3 set in the icon.)
Anyone notice the lip around the edge on the front and back? Maybe will help avoid scratches when dragged on a flat surface.

Absolutely ... and in all honesty, I think many had good reason to become "Mac haters" too. I was a hard-core PC user back in 1996 or 97, when I decided to take the plunge and try a Mac. (Wondered what all the fuss was about, and wanted to learn something new.) I bought a whole Performa tower system with color printer, etc. I think I put up with that for a whole 3 months before gladly selling it at a loss to someone else! Gag... non-upgradeable video with too little VRAM, worse multitasking under MacOS 8.x than my Windows PC before it had, etc.
It wasn't until I saw OS X on a G4 tower that I gave Apple another chance. And now, today, it's almost all I use at home!
Truthfully though, Apple still needs to do more. The Mac Pro is single-handedly changing the opinions of quite a few PC users who kept arguing that you could simply get more performance out of a Windows PC than a Mac. (It's hard to argue with a quad-core Xeon that can be upgraded to an 8-core version with a CPU swap, and costs less than a comparable Dell system.) And offering a 24" LCD iMac is a good "power user" move too - since it silences the people who whine about all-in-one designs, mainly because they can't get a big display with one.
But IMHO, Apple is a little weak in the video card dept. still. The Mac Mini now costs $100-200 more than it did when it came out, and you still get wimpy, non-upgradeable graphics in it. The Core Duo 2 CPU in one *really* starts to make that look lopsided. Even the iMacs could use something like Radeon X1900XT's in them - because the home market they target includes a lot of teens who want to play games on the computer.
And I'm *really* hoping they start doing more to get software ported to OS X. The ability to boot into Windows shouldn't become an excuse for developers not to make native OS X versions of software. I barely ever boot into XP on my Mac Pro because I like the OS X environment so much better. So the games I tend to play on it are the ones like "Call of Duty 2" I have for OS X.
It's sad though, many people still hate macs. People who have not used one since the old OS 8 / OS 9 days. The 'only one-mouse button / expensive / can't run any programs' image still tarnishes apple. It might take another couple of years for that to wear off from people. At least.

Hi, I'd like a program for my mac that I can use to do simple enough graphs, such as those for market structures in economics.
Failing that, is there an MSpaint like program for mac?

I haven't used either of these but I find appshopper to be a good source of free apps. This doesn't depend on having the latest snow leopard with the app store as most apps have ways to download them from the develper's web site if you don't use the app store to obtain them. Appshopper's search feature doesn't work that well as it brings up thousands of iOS apps for every OS X app but if you spend a little time you should be able to find several free or low cost apps to meet your needs.
BTW you do realize there are graphing capabilities in the freeware OpenOffice.org/LibreOffice, right? I often find myself opening a spreadsheet for quick calculations anyway. If you don't mind a somewhat complicated user interface, gimp is the best freeware graphics program on OS X and compares with with Photoshop CS5.

So i got the Beta Copy of Star Craft but I don't seem to have any playable maps... :S What gives?
Did you actually get the beta from Blizzard? Or did you just download some random beta from a pirate site?
If you're not a part of the authorized Beta, you're not going to be able to play maps (as far as I know) on a Mac. The beta is based on online multiplayer only.

No, I said and say nothing of the sort. What I said is that it sounds like the Counsumerist talked to a call center employee who didn't know what was actually going on. The Consumerist was not lying, nor was AT&T lying; the call center employee wasn't even lying...s/he was just talking out of his or her ass. Call center employees are underpaid and under-trained, and half the time I think they're just trying to BS their way through the day. It has happened many times before that a low-level employee who is not even close to the loop has said something that has to be walked back by management. Always such things become gospel and remain fodder for conspiracy theorists. This strikes me as one of those cases.
