Kat Von D Tattoo

While the acceptance of tattoos in the mainstream has been growing for some time, with about 15 percent of men in America sporting a tattoo, and 13 percent of women, the growing fame and celebrity of Kat Von D has really brought the art to a high level, as she, more than anybody, is definitely the face of tattooing to the masses.
Of course within the inner circles of the subculture there are many great artists which Kat herself respects and considers far more talented.

One in particular she has high regard for is Kore Flatmo, who has been her mentor and major inspiration.
That is true in some respects, but in her specific area she's up there at the top.
But because she's interesting, photogenic, and absolutely loves the art, she's quickly become the greatest marketing tool the genre has ever had.

I think what makes Kat Von D so marketable, isn't simply her dark beauty, which she definitely has, but she's able to appeal to the inner circle of the tattoo world and not be considered a sellout, while at the same time able to reach out to the average person and not be considered weird to the point of not being able to connect to her.
In other words, she's perfect for the job, and her passion for her craft allows her to represent it in a way that is real and not contrived. People always feel the passion of someone who really loves what they do, and that is part of the persona of Von D.

As far as her favorite personal tattoo? It's the star tattoos on the side of her head.
If Kat Von D chooses to, she can go as far as she wants, as doors are opening before her, and she's building out her brand in other areas like makeup, and also released her first book in early 2009 - High Voltage Tattoo.
What's amazing about this to me, is how design can be applied to so many areas, and things you would think are limited, can be taken far beyond what can be imagined.

Laugh it up, fuzzball: Harrison Ford reunited with Star Wars co-pilot Chewbacca... but launches attack on his old friend

By GEORGINA LITTLEJOHN

What are you doing here? Harrison Ford launches a verbal attack on old friend and Star Wars co-star Chewbacca as he shouts at him for sleeping with his wife

Every Star Wars fan worth their salt knows only too well from C3PO's warning, that it's 'not wise' to upset a Wookie.

But clearly it's advice that Chewbacca's former co-pilot Han Solo wasn't worried about following as he launched into a verbal attack on his old friend - and for good reason.

Actor Harrison Ford, who played the Millennium Falcon's pilot, didn't look too happy to see the Wookie as they were reunited on TV last night.

What the hell? Harrison is getting his make-up done for a TV appearance when Chewie appears at the door

Despite fighting battles side-by-side against the Galactic Empire a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, their friendship came to an abrupt end once the bad guys were defeated and the cameras stopped rolling - because Chewie slept with his wife.

Ford, 69, was seen getting his hair and make-up done before a guest appearance on TV chat show Jimmy Kimmel when there's a knock at the door and Chewbacca walks in to say hello to his old friend.

You've got some nerve! Chewie growls in protest at Ford's accusations

But his appearance does not go down well with Ford who stomps over to the Wookie and launches into an angry verbal attack on his former sidekick.

He snaps: 'What are you doing here, you son of a b****? Cut the s***, you think you can walk in here and say you're sorry after what you did?'

Never come back! Ford angrily shoves the Wookie out of his dressing room

You betrayed me! Ford screams after Chewie as he berates him for sleeping with his wife

As Chewie growls his protests, Ford continues: 'I'm done with that Star Wars crap and I'm done with you. I'm in Cowboys & Aliens. Daniel Craig's my Wookie b**** now.'

He then shouts, 'Out. Get out!' as he shoves the sorry Wookie out the door.

He screams after him: 'She was my wife! She's still spitting up hairballs!'

Ford (R) and Chewie alongside Ben Kenobi (the late Sir Alec Guinness) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in Star Wars: A New Hope

Of course, before Star Wars fans clutch their chests in horror that two old friends have become enemies, it was a sketch done in jest for the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

Ford was a guest on the show to promote his new movie Cowboys and Aliens and thought he would have a bit of fun while he was there.

Old friends: Ford and Peter Mayhew who played the original Chewbacca

Ford starred alongside the 'walking carpet' - who was played by Peter Mayhew - not in the sketch - in the films, from Star Wars; A New Hope in 1977 to Return of the Jedi in 1983.

They have become movie legends and the idols of many a small boy as they put the Falcon into hyperdrive and flew the galaxy at light speed.

Ford is currently starring alongside Daniel Craig in Cowboys and Aliens, a western with an extraterrestrial twist, which is released in the UK on August 17.
