Art We ♥: Wylie The Band

A trio of Carolinians are currently blasting from our stereo. The band Wylie consists of Keon Masters, Ryan Patrick Zimmerman, and Christian Chidester. A big break isn't far off for them; they recently competed in Scene SC's Next Big Thing competition.

The band came up with their name when they first started playing together and spending their time in the town of Lake Wylie. One of them suggested Wylie, and they weren't sold, but wylie means clever and crafty, and it suits them well.

Pounding the Pavement: Lulu's in Greenpoint

Where Franklin Street meets Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn, we have found a great little bar. A little chalkboard sign outside the door denotes the spot as Lulu's.

What makes this place great is that with each drink you order the bartender gives you a ticket that you can redeem with the pizza maker for a free personal pizza.

It's fairly often that our food money turns into our clothing money, and we'll buy a dress rather than lunch, but here we get the best of both worlds!

In The Issue, On The Street: Reformation Lace Dress

Our first shipment of Reformation arrived in our Hoboken store last week. We love the store on the Lower East Side and are elated to finally be carrying the line in Jessie James.
The black lace dress in the September issue of InStyle magazine reminded us of ours.

Present Perfect + Future Favorite: Foley + Corrina Army Green Dress

Yesterday morning Maria Sansone from LX New York stopped by our West Village store. We were given a plain white t-shirt from the Gap and asked to style it with clothes that reflect Jessie James and the typical West Village girl. Below is the look we created.

And in case you missed our feature on the show, here it is:

Art We ♥: Benrimon Contemporary Gallery

Tucked away on the second floor of 514 West 24th Street in the Chelsea Gallery District is Benrimon Contemporary. The gallery, opened in April earlier this year, is dedicated to making art exciting and accessible to all.

It was founded by Leon Benrimon with help from his sister Linda. They grew up around art and in museums. Their father David owns David Benrimon Fine Art, a midtown gallery located at 21 East 65th St. They opened their own gallery with a mission to bring a fresh perspective to art in Manhattan.
The gallery features Contemporary and Modern artists. Currently showing the exhibit Younger Than Moses: Idle Worship. It consists of paintings, sculptures, performances, film, photography, and collage. This particular exhibit will be open through September 12.

Benrimon Contemporary has an extensive exhibition schedule, featuring eleven shows a year. Every opening is open to the public and admission is free. Stop by on Thursdays anytime until 10 pm and enjoy drinks, snacks, and great art!

Take 3: Allison Parris tutu

Thanks to quickly emerging NYC based designer Allison Parris, tutus are no longer reserved for your five-year-old niece’s ballet class alone. A superbly girly, yet coyly sexy version for grown-ups has hit our racks, and the mere sight of this tulle bombshell makes us giddy.
Our resident southern belle Mimi has expertly curated three looks - all full of girlish whimsy with their own special twist:

A nautical striped T and layered chains exude classic sweetness; throw on Joie’s snakeskin tank dress (pinned up as a tank – yes, you can do this at home), our fav lace up booties, edgy gold and leather jewelry, and grab your black Clarevivier tote for girls’ night out downtown; or cozy up to fall’s hiker chic trend with a plaid felt BB Dakota jacket, layered scarves in autumnal hues, charcoal grey tights, and rustic tan leather ankle boots.

WARNING: this skirt will instantly transform you into a twirling, champagne drinking, bon-bon eating, life-of-the-party kind of girl, and yes, you will receive a stare or two (or three) on your way to the bar, too. J

Pounding the Pavement: Local Barre

It’s every person’s dream to find a bar that is actually good for your health. Which is why we couldn’t have been more excited to stumble upon Local Barre!

(photo courtesy of l. Statement by Danielle r. Local Barre)

Since their first happy hour in April 2010, we have been addicted to this hour-long workout known as the Open Barre. Their signature class is a fusion of ballet, pilates, yoga & stretching to inspirational music with the use of weights, straps & fitness balls resulting in a total body workout that’ll leave you thirsty for more.

Like any bar, Local Barre offers a variety of classes. Top Shelf Barre is for their advanced clients. Dance Infusions are a mixture of their signature class & choreography. Let It Flow is a concoction of their signature class & yoga. Local Barre even offers Chasers, which are 30-minute classes that gives extra attention to each body shot.

In The Issue, On The Street: Sci-Fi Style

Our second shipment of Twinkle by Wenlan arrived at the end of last week. The line is new to Jessie James and adds to our fall collection that is growing everyday as new items are delivered. The splatter print dress goes along with the Trek Check feature in Elle's September issue.
We love the fun Sci-Fi vibe! Pair it with black booties and a Lucite necklace to complete the look.

Present Perfect + Future Favorite: Floral Tank Dress

We've anxiously been awaiting the arrival of this floral silk tank dress from Riley. The entire line is designed by Jessie James' owner with our specific customer and the current season's must-have's in mind. The floral print is a beautiful take on the biggest colors for the fall: army green and purple orchid. Until the end of summer, simply throw on a belt and flats. When the temperature begins to drop, add a structured jacket and tights, then top it off with lace up wedges and a scarf. No longer reserved for spring and summer, florals are a year round staple, snow or shine!

Art We ♥: The Canon Logic

Song we have on repeat:
The Canon Logic's Dead Man

What can I say?! All of us at the store can't stop listening to the debut album FM Arcade from Brooklyn's The Canon Logic. The band burst on the scene back in 2006 when Mark Alu, Sean Enright, Josh Greenfield, Tim Kiely & Mike Mignano joined forces. Releasing some EP's here & there, the group nabbed a spots on some of your favorite tours. Ever hear of a little one called Van's Warped Tour?! Not too shabby for an indie band out of the University of Delaware!
Sign up on thecanonlogic.com to get updates on shows & their music. The band has the tendency to give away free songs. After all, you can't argue with great music at an even better price. One way or another, trust me, FM Arcade is an album that you DON'T want to miss out on. If you can, make sure to check The Canon Logic out live - they won't disappoint. If you look hard enough, you might even catch a glimpse of me rocking out front & center.

Until next time...

Take 3: Joie lace-up peeptoe booties

Seriously, what's not to love about Joie's new "Say It Ain't So" lace-up peeptoe ankle boots? Equal parts modern edge and vintage vamp, these shoes are so right now, and we need them to become part of our own shoe collections - pronto. As soon as these beauties were removed from their box, our minds' immediately began to race, filled with innumerable styling options for now through the chillier months in order to justify their purchase. Sue dreamt up three of her favorite looks below, each anchored by our new obsession...

Pair with Veda's leather sleeved military jacket and a black silk Riley tank dress to rock the utilitarian chic trend. If you're in the mood for menswear with an edge, throw on ADAM's paperbag trousers, a Dolce Vita sheer sweater, and some layered Erica Weiner chains to complete the look. And when you need to bust out your inner rebel chick, mix up a Gestuz grey denim motorcycle vest over a girly Dolce Vita polka dot number, slip on a pair of shredded tights, and you're good to go!

Pounding the Pavement: Joe The Art Of Coffee

It's amazing how many places in the city sell the "World's Best Cup of Coffee." But what is even more amazing is that we have actually found what we believe to be the world's best cup of coffee.

Seven years ago in the West Village on Waverly Place the first Joe The Art Of Coffee opened. They brew most of their coffee by the cup rather than by the batch, thus the perfection of each cup. Since 2003, Joe has added four locations: Upper West Side on Columbus Avenue, Union Square on East 13th, Chelsea on West 23rd, and in Grand Central Station.

In addition to amazing coffee Joe's is unique because they offer classes where you can get a hands on learning experience of many different coffee making techniques. Better still, they have weekend running clubs that meet for group runs and enjoy coffee on the house afterward. Perfection in a cup!

In The Issue, On The Street: Military Green

One of our favorite fall trends is military green. The September issue of People Style Watch featured a section on the look. Our most recent shipment from VEDA includes the Jones jacket shown below. It's an edgy version of the military jacket, spiced up with leather sleeves and cargo pockets.

Rachel styled hers with a Dolce Vita sweater, stirrup leggings, and Joie cutout boots.

Present Perfect + Future Favorite: Riley Dress

Exclusive to Jessie James is our in-house line Riley. Our bestselling dress this summer has been the blush Riley dress, ideal for a wedding, special occasion, or everyday city walking. A second shipment will be arriving in stores soon.

While the heat wave remains, for a Present Perfect look pair it with a gold braided belt and Joie cut-out boots. When it cools down for a Future Favorite look add tights, throw on a chunky sweater, and dress it up with Joie lace-up wedges.

Inspiration For Renovation

Recently at Jessie James we've been inspired by things of a rustic chic nature. In particular black matte walls, exposed wood, and Edison bulbs.

We were inspired to the point that we completely renovated our Hoboken store. With the help of Dan Faires, in four short days our store became a beautiful space that creates the ultimate shopping experience.

Pounding the Pavement: Ward III

Sometimes a well kept secret needs to be shared. Ward III is one of those.

Tucked away on Reade St. in Tribeca, you could easily miss it if you didn't know it was there. Stop in and you'll begin to see in threes. Pronounced "Ward Three" but spelled "Ward III" it is located at 111 Reade. There are three owners: Michael, Kenneth, and Abdul. They all have the same "III" tattoo on their forearm.

Perhaps the best thing about Ward III is their Bespoke Cocktails. Simply tell the bartender what you like (Spirit, Texture, Spice, Flavor, Fruit) and they will make a custom drink specific to your taste preferences. If the drink is worth ordering again you get to name it and it is added to the permanent archives for others to enjoy.

Every Monday is Whiskey Monday at Ward III and each week a different distributor sponsors a tasting. In between drinks you can enjoy the featured whiskey, most recently Michael Collins Irish Whiskey.

What can we say?
Good things come in threes.

In The Issue, On The Street: Paperbag Trousers

Lucky Magazine did a feature on Paperbag Trousers in the August issue and we couldn't love it more! Jessie James West Village recently got a shipment of ADAM Lippes trousers and our entire sales staff immediately placed a special order.

Meg styled hers with an Allison Parris sequin tank, DVF wedges, Ray Ban shades, and a Fred Hayman vintage handbag.
