Device convergence. Cameraphones have been catching up very nicely as of late. I can do so me pretty astounding things with my iPhone 4 camera plus photo software. The only real issue yet to be sorted out is zoom.
Until they start adding a decently sized sensor there will be no true convergence. The iPhone does take great pictures - for a phone. There's no comparison when it comes to a point and shoot camera, never mind a digital SLR.

Both cameras handle low light situations, much better then the iPhone, the aperture can handle faster shutter speeds so you can increase/decrease the aperture and shutter speeds depending on the conditions.

Cameras have way too much ability and performance over a camera phone. They're only catching up on megapixels, sensor size, RAW, aperture, lens, shutter speed have not been addressed on a phone

I've frequently seen this when the plug is not fully inserted into the jack. It can take a fair amount of pressure to overcome that last detent in the jack.

well i bought a new firewire cable thinking maybe that was the problem but now the dam external drive wont even show up on the desktop (or system profiler).. neither cable is able to bring the drive up on the desktop but it works fine with USB 2 ...it must be either my mac mini firewire port or the port on the drive and since i never used my firewire port on the mini before then my money is on the drive being faulty

HTC 16 Megapixel handset incoming? (http://www.t3.com/news/htc-16-megapixel-windows-phone-7-handset-incoming?=55525)

Hopefully they wont ruin it by putting cheap, knock-off lenses in.

Well one thing that was discovered later after a lot of the reviews was people were not remove the little plastic film over them. They assumed incorrectly that because there was a cut or for it that it was not on there. After you remove the the plastic film it worked great. (film is a lot like the plastic one on the iPhone when you first get it)

This sounds like such a scam.

At first thats what i thought , though i think the OP is just trying to buy loads to sell in Israel but has realised he has got himself into a sticky situation once he realised its only 2 per customer.

To OP have you tried calling ALL best buys in Manhattan ?

PS-In a two week trip to Italy last summer, I was delayed by TWO transport labor strikes...according to locals, this happens regularly. You might wonder how they get stuff done if this happens so often. The short answer is that they don't.

A friend told me the same thing happened in France when they were waiting at the Louvre Muesuem. They asked someone working there why the line was so long. The worker responded causally that the workers were deciding on whether to strike.

This Business 2.0 article talks about how the docks currently operate without even bar-code technology we have in supermarkets:

    http://www.business2.com/articles/web/0,1653,44247,FF.html

It's quite ridiculous that the unions are obstructing the implementation of technology. A new scanning system, a better supply chain, and automated cranes might cost a few jobs here and there, but it's an unnecessary inconvenience to many. Should we smash up cars to bring back the jobs of those horse and buggy drivers?

It appears that OS X will truncate any password longer than 7 characters to only 8 characters. In other words, it's an 8-character overflow. This problem is global in that it affects the Login Window, Screen Effects, Keychain Access, and even network logon security. For anyone with long password phrases that have easily-guessable words in the first 8 characters, this is a problem. Since "MacintoshOSXIsMoreSecureThanMicrosoftWindows" only needs to be entered as "Macintosh", gaining unauthorized access is very simple with a common name attack. Of course, we all have passwords that are a combination of letters and numbers, including a mix of upper- and lower-case characters. ;)

Well, there may be lines, but unless apple manages to get enough to AT&T to cover all the pre-orders and then some, it might all be for naught...

One point to note is that as far as I'm aware the 'Apple' versions of the 5770 or 5870 do not have the crossfire option.

So unless both the 5770 cards are 'Windows' versions of the cards the 2nd 5770 will just be sitting there not doing anything with no monitor plugged in.

My setup if 2x5770 (normal Apple versions (Apple gave me one for free!)) but I have multiple monitors splitting the load between them.

Bottom line is get the 5870 if you need the card now but as Cindori says wait for Lion as there looks to be native support for something like the 6870.

OK all you Tokyo-ites, how about a gathering at the Ginza Apple Store.

If Leopard is to be released at 6.00 pm here I will definitely be there at 6.00!

I'll be the Australian in a suit with a little MacRumors flag, kind of like the flags you see Japanese tour groups following around.

I kid, don't want to embarrass myself too much. If there are others interested let's talk meet strategy!

    Cheers

Hello, if you look at my other post on the LaCie there is some info that I got from LaCie and some cd/dvd manfs. about the type of disc you need.
The burner won't be out untill mid March and as LaCie's web page says they are taking pre-orders.
    Quote:

Artful Dodger, I had planned on buying one of the LaCie lightscribe external burners in the near future, but you mentioned something that caught my attention. Are there only certain blanks that are compatible with the lightscribe capability? I *assumed* any blank without a surfce design would have done the trick, but I guess not. Thanks!

Yes only certain media will work, TDK, HP (it's their drive in it), Verbatim and only the "+" R media since none of the companies are making any other media as of yet. This was from about 3 or 4 e-mails to different companies that were given to me by LaCie. Also the discs are of a gray scale "etched" quality when burned.
You will have to look for the Lightscribe logo on the side of the dvd/cd cake packs or what ever they pack them in.
    Hope this helps.

Maybe I'm getting old, but there doesn't seem to be any right now. :( All of the games I find interesting are being funneled/gimped to the 360, or the promising ones have been blah in general. The only game that my PC buddies got into, which I didn't for obvious reasons, was WoW, which of course is cross platform. Now that's all some of them play.

I haven't bought a PC game for a few years now. My PC Tower(s) are only on for a little bit of work these days.

What type of games do you like, I can ask my friends if they've found anything good at the moment, or if WoW is still consuming their lives? I've been gaming on PCs since the eighties and prior to this drout used ot game all of the time, mostly online and via LAN parties. And MS thinks we'll pay for services that are still free...

This is the only game (http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/) I'm even remotely interested in playing. But I'm not hold my breath, since System Shock 2 and other games that uses a similar approach to the first one, kind of blew chuncks in comparison.

yes, that's exactly what I did. I took an external 1TB WD small form factor drive (it houses a 2.5" HDD), created 200GB and 800GB partitions, then installed Lion on the smaller one. I still haven't begun to use the larger partition, however :D

BTW, has anyone gotten iStat Menus 2.0 running on Lion? I can't seem to get it working correctly. It downloads the sensors, but when I click on any of them in the preference pane, I'm told that they can't be loaded.

It depends on your needs, if you have two notebooks with the same specs and differing only in weight, the lighter one will probably be more expensive, but if you need something that is very portable then it is probably worth it and thus better. If you don't care about weight, the heavier one will be cheaper and better for your needs.

Oh, also I've got another question. (well a few actually)

Will the Xbox 360 with HD DVD drive have better quality than my current circa-2001 Sony Progressive-scan DVD player hooked up over component for DVD's? Basically, should I hold on to my DVD player or will it be unneeded?

Also, I don't have a 1080p TV right now, I'm using a 32" square CRT HD-ready one I got 5+ years ago. Does anybody reccomend any TV's that are:

There are also G4 optimized builds of Camino here (http://www.rpm-mozilla.org.uk/index.html). A 1.33GHz G4 iBook would use the "7450" build.

This is a topic that's appeared in a few previous threads, but the recent barefeets benchmark tests comparing the slightly different configured 1GHz Quicksilver to the new 1 GHz dual, despite competing views these tests have generated, leave me and perhaps many of us wondering which is the better deal: a used dual GHz or its newer "equivalent"?

I just bought from an individual the older one w/3yrs AppleCare, a gig of memory, the NVIDEA GForce 4MX, and an external 40-gig Maxtor drive, all for the same amount as Apple's stock-configured 1 GHz dualie. There's no Apple Store near me to see the newer one up close.

I'm not a graphics arts designer or filmmaker but a cultural anthropologist/folklorist/professor who will be burning DVDs for classroom pursposes for the university where I teach. Also, I'd hope whatever I get will still hold its own a few years later.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this, but in layman's terms. Apple techies expectedly insist that the newer model is the better way to go.

    Thanks,
    Rick
